獲澳洲政治庇護的伊朗人莫尼斯12月15日持槍闖入澳洲雪梨的咖啡館，挾持多名人質並威脅將引爆炸彈。他在與警方對峙逾16小時後，在攻堅行動中遭擊斃。外交部發言人高安表示，整起事件已經落幕，人質中無台灣人，也無僑界人士受到影響，但因當地警方仍在釐清原委，我方將持續關注後續情勢。

根據外電報導，除挾持人質的莫尼斯之外，另外有34歲男性與38歲女性也在攻堅行動中受到波及，送醫不治。

高安指出，我方在事件發生後即與當地警方、僑界人士保持聯繫，目前訊息並無國人受害或受到波及。她表示，接下來仍將持續關注情勢。
