麥當勞計劃在美國1.4萬家分店供應不添加特定抗生素的雞肉，加重了美國雞肉供應鏈的壓力。

無抗生素雞肉僅占美國雞肉供應鏈的極小部分，消費者愈來愈偏好天然產品，常常造成供不應求。由於供應量有限，全美最大的六個學區去年設法改用無抗生素豬肉來取代雞肉。雞肉供應商均表示，難以迅速轉換生產模式來符合需求。

全球餐飲龍頭麥當勞改採無抗生素雞肉，將進一步使供應緊縮，使得價格上揚。顧問公司Franchise Equity Group創辦人亞當斯（Richard Adams）指出，此舉可能打亂麥當勞供應鏈，也可能使加盟店的營運成本增加。

增加供應的主要難關，在於能否成功說服畜牧業者及罐頭業者採用新的飼育方式，因為他們擔心利潤受損。
