美國隊在世界盃16強賽輸球，全美國有不少人可能心碎、夢碎，但是美國足球大聯盟（MLS）承辦人說，美國國家隊吸引前所未見的熱情，證實足球大聯盟的時代已經到來。

美國足球大聯盟紐約辦公室所有注意力都放在巴西，美國隊與歐洲強權比利時纏戰到延長賽，才以1比2敗下陣來，阻斷美國的金盃夢。

另外，美國足球大聯盟人員也在佛羅里達州奧蘭多（Orlando）慶祝，因為巴西攻擊型中場名將卡卡（Kaka）與MLS新增生力軍球會「奧蘭多市隊」簽約，使這名在2002年協助巴西贏得第5個世界盃冠軍的卡卡，成為加盟MLS的重要歐洲、南美看板球星之一。
